Every Midsummer the people take over Penzance for Golowan - Twelve Days of Music - Theatre and Events

The climax of the Golowan festival is a three day feast of street entertainment, parades of banners, giant images, concerts and spontaneous events

Its also a celebration of our maritime culture with traditional sail - ex steamships - square riggers & old fishing boats

Golowan   (The Ancient Midsummer Feast of John) is one of Europe's oldest community festivals , and is recorded in the earliest history of Penzance.

Golowan is Cornish for John's Feast
Gol = Feast or Vigil - Owan or Jowan = John

Golowan maintains the old Celtic Traditions, whilst embracing the new, its a major event, involving the whole community and attracting visitors and performers from all over the world.
