The Metropole Hotel Padstow Station Rd, Padstow, Cornwall Padstow's premier three
star hotel offering 50 bedrooms, with and without sea view , mini suites and three
lovelly four poster rooms. All our rooms are en suite with all
the facilities you would expect from a hotel of this standard. The
Jewel in the Crown of the North Cornwall Coast Work on the Metropole was started
in 1900 and the hotel opened its doors in 1904. It was built by the sons
of John Cory and Sons, ship owners from Cardiff. It was built as much for the
holidays of the extended family as for a commercial enterprise. The total cost
including fitting was 12,000. The hotel was originally called The South
Western, to benefit from the planned railway development but it was Southern Railways
who eventually brought the trains to Padstow. This prompted the change of name.
The railway brought many visitors on the direct line from Waterloo, including
many M.P.s. The then Prince of Wales was a regular visitor for the golf, did Mrs.
Simpson visit too? Not suprisingly there are no records of this! Restaurant
