SV Courier - 17th Century Replica Frigate

The Mock Skirmish celebrated an incident in 1750 when the Mount's canons opened fire on a French vessel.

Tragically one of the cannons blew up killing one of the islanders - whose descendant Steven Matthews, lives on the Mount today.

The fleet - led in 1999 by the Russian Vessel 'Courier' - assembled off St Michael's Mount.

A maroon was fired from St. Michaels Mount to signify commencement of battle.
Following the mock battle the fleet sailed back to Penzance to catch the last of the tide..
